Lake Effect Services

About Lake Effect Services

Open water and a north wind are all it takes; the band sets up off Lake Ontario, parks itself over the Adams Center flats, and doesn't move for a day and a half. Lake Effect Services is built for exactly that hour — plows rolling at two in the morning, headlights full of white, working driveways and lots back to bare pavement before anyone needs them. Between rounds come the salt and the scraping, the hand work at the steps and the mailbox, the second pass after the county truck buries the end of the drive again. It is loud, cold, unglamorous work, and it ends with a clean black rectangle where an hour ago there was none. In this corner of Jefferson County that is the whole job, and tomorrow it starts over.
