About Stoney Basin LLC

Dig almost anywhere out here and you meet rock, alkali and hardpan long before you meet anything a gardener would call soil. Stoney Basin LLC starts at first light in August, when the air is still cool enough to work and the mower leaves a dark stripe of damp behind it. Getting a lawn to thrive on this ground takes aeration, feeding on a rhythm, weed control, and overseeding wherever the sun has burned a hole through. The weekly routine stays plain — mow, edge, trim, clear the walks — and the plainness is exactly the point. A dense, even yard sitting in the middle of the basin never stops looking like something somebody decided on and then stuck to.
