The name is lifted straight off the Nevada flag, and it suits a town where nothing stays green by accident. Spring arrives late in Steptoe Valley — frost still silvering the sage on the flats under the Egan Range long after the calendar says otherwise — so the first cut of the year is a small event. Battle Born Restoration takes that cut and every one that follows: mowing, trimming, edging, and clearing off the dead thatch winter leaves behind. At six thousand four hundred feet, a lawn that finally holds its color against all that gray-green country is worth standing back to look at. The work runs through Ely and out to Ruth, McGill and the ranch roads toward Lund.
