About Lawn

The name is one word, which suits a town where the work talks louder than the lettering on the truck. Lawn cuts grass in Elko, mowing, trimming, edging and hauling the clippings, right through the flat bright middle of a Great Basin summer when the sprinklers run before daylight and again at dusk. Midday out here bleaches everything except a watered yard, and a mowed lawn on a July afternoon is the one soft green thing on a block of gravel and sun. Fertilizer and weed treatment go down on schedule, because nothing in this soil volunteers to become turf. What is left behind is simple and worth doing right: an even cut, a straight seam along the concrete, and a driveway swept before the truck pulls away.
