About Union Pacific Rail Yard

Freight has set the tempo in Tucumcari a long while, and the yard grass grows in the gaps between steel and gravel where little else bothers to. Union Pacific Rail Yard handles mowing and trimming across that ground — cutting the open areas, running the string trimmer along fences, poles and ballast edges, and keeping growth back from where people walk. Cut low and cut regularly it stays manageable; let it go a month out here and the wind plants it with everything else it is carrying. The finished look is simple and squared, green standing against rust and rock. It is unglamorous work with a plainly visible result, which is most of the appeal.
