Up in the Moreno Valley the growing season is short and everybody knows it — the ground clears in May, the grass comes hard and fast, and by June the light hangs on past nine o'clock. Tony B Services spends that stretch of the year with the mower running: lawns cut, string trimmer along fence lines and rock walls, brush and dead limbs pulled out of the yard. Eagle Nest Lake pushes the wind down the valley and keeps the evenings cold enough for a jacket even in July. At eight thousand feet a green lawn is genuinely earned. Mowed close, with a clean line against pine duff and gravel, it looks like a small piece of order borrowed from the mountains.
