In April the cottonwoods along the Santa Fe River let go all at once — a single week of that yellow-green that means the year has finally turned. Bosque Natural Landscaping works in the shade of those old trees and out beyond them, mowing, trimming, raking and clearing yards in the neighborhoods that grew up along the water. Spring here is a negotiation: warm noon, freezing dawn, and a wind that arrives down the canyon without announcing itself. They cut on a rhythm the grass can actually carry, pull the winter litter out of the beds, and leave the turf open to the light. A yard beside the river ought to look like it belongs to the river, and that is the mark they work toward.
