The name is the schedule. Summer mowing in Rio Rancho Estates starts while the air still remembers night, when the mesa is grey-blue and the machine leaves a dark line through dew that will be gone by eight o'clock. All day the turf gets what it asks for: cut clean and level, edged along walks and drive, trimmed around every post, block wall and mailbox, weeds taken out of the beds by hand. Late on, the mountains across the valley turn the color they are named for, and the last yard of the day gets the same pass as the first one did. Grass is a demanding thing to keep alive out here, and it deserves to be cut like it matters.
