Drop east off the Rio Rancho mesa and the color changes: the bosque along the Rio Grande carries a green the high desert never attempts, cottonwoods standing in their own shade. That green is the standard we bring back up the hill to Rio Rancho Estates. It shows up in mowing done at a height the grass can actually hold through a dry June, in trimming around the posts and meters a mower deck can never reach, in weeds pulled from rock beds before they seed themselves twice over. Leaves and clippings do not stay behind. A yard here does not have to look like the valley to look cared for — it only has to look like somebody meant every line in it.
