Late August, and the thunderheads pile up over the Jemez while Black Mesa goes flat and dark in the west. Lagunascape works the hours before that weather turns — mowing the valley yards along the Pojoaque, edging clean where lawn meets flagstone and drive, trimming the corners no mower can take. Storm-fed grass in this country grows in bursts, so the visits stay regular whether it looks like it needs them or not. Afterward the smell of cut grass hangs in air that is about to be full of rain. Not a bad way to end a day between two mountain ranges.
