The great cottonwoods of Peña Blanca are the village's summer roof, their crowns spreading wide over houses and fields near the river, their leaves clattering in every afternoon breeze. To the east the long dark escarpment of La Bajada rises off the valley floor, but down among the trunks the June air stays green and dappled. Cottonwoods are generous trees and heavy ones, apt to let a big limb go without warning, and that is where American Tree Services comes in. Trimming, thinning and removal keep the shade overhead while keeping the weight off the roof, the fence and the truck. Look up when the work is done and the canopy is still there, just lighter, cleaner, and easier to rest beneath.
