On October mornings the balloons come up over the North Valley and drift low along the river, and half of Los Ranchos walks out into the yard to watch them go by. Shelly Landscaping keeps those yards worth stepping into: the mowing, the edge lines, the trimming and the seasonal cleanup along the ditch banks and horse pastures that give this village its shape. Fall work here is mostly leaves and a last few cuts, done while the mornings are cold and the afternoons are as good as afternoons get. Spring starts it over with the first green along the acequia. In between, the round never really stops — which is precisely how a lawn ends up looking effortless.
