La Puebla wakes early in April, apricot blossom set against adobe and the Truchas Peaks still white above the Espanola Valley. Solful Design works these narrow lanes and acequia-side yards with lawn mowing on a steady round, trimming close along walls, ditch banks and fruit-tree trunks. Edges are cut so the grass ends exactly where it should, and the clippings and fallen litter go out with the crew. In autumn the valley's leaves come down nearly all at once, and cleanup work readies each yard for the cold that slides down out of the Sangre de Cristos. It is plain, careful tending in a place that has been growing things for a very long time.
