July here belongs to the sky. Thunderheads stack over the Jemez by noon, the air goes still and green-smelling, and by three o'clock rain is walking across the valley in visible sheets. Heavenly Elements Landscaping works around it, mowing in the bright mornings and trimming while the grass is still dry, then coming back after the storm when everything in La Cienega has grown an inch overnight. That is the strange gift of a high-desert monsoon: two months of real growth, and somebody has to keep up with it. They do — cut clean, edges defined, clippings gone — so when the light returns low and gold, the yard looks like it was waiting for it.
