East Pecos sits beside the village of Pecos, its namesake, close to the Pecos River as it comes down cold and clear out of the Santa Fe National Forest and the high Sangre de Cristo country above. Very Good Tree Service works among the trees that fill this valley: tall pines climbing the slopes, Gambel oak on the hillsides, cottonwood and willow along the water. In late February, with the branches still bare and the river running low, the shape of every tree is plain to see, an ideal moment to prune before spring.
