On the eastern flank of the Sandias, a couple thousand feet above Albuquerque's heat, Cedar Crest smells of warm pine sap by midday, and its yards sit half in sunlight, half in ponderosa shade. 4 Bros with Hoes works those yards the way the name suggests: hands in the soil, weeds pulled at the root, beds turned, grass mowed back to a neat green apron around the house. A mountain lot along the Turquoise Trail is part lawn and part forest floor, and the skill lies in drawing a clean line between the two. Up here the warm months arrive late and leave early, so every good week of June counts. When the hoes are finally put away, the whole place looks like it has let out a long breath.
