The Grass Guru

About The Grass Guru

Cross the Bataan Bridge in January and the lawns on both sides of the Pecos are the color of straw — dormant, resting, waiting on about six weeks of sun. The Grass Guru knows what that stretch is for: dormant cleanup, edges recut, debris hauled off, hedges shaped, everything set up for a green-up that arrives fast once the nights let go. After that it is mowing, trimming and feeding straight through a long Carlsbad summer, on a schedule the grass sets rather than the calendar. Turf will tell you what it needs if somebody bothers to look at it. The reward is a yard that turns green early, holds it late, and never once looks neglected in between.
