Berino lies in the Mesilla Valley among the pecan orchards, where the rows run straight to the horizon and irrigation water comes down the ditches on its own calendar. Lawns here grow in that same deep valley dirt, and once the heat arrives they grow fast. The work is keeping pace with it — mowing even, trimming along fence lines and drives, clearing leaves and clippings so the grass can breathe. Late in the day the Organ Mountains go pink northeast of the valley, and a freshly cut lawn holds that light like pressed linen. There is real pride in a yard that looks as ordered as the orchard rows beside it.
