About Salt & Cedar Co.

On a clear June morning the route starts quiet, the light lying flat and silver across the grass most of the way to the back fence. Salt & Cedar Co. works the yards around Artesia — mowing, edging, trimming, and hauling off what the season leaves behind. Grass grows hard once the season gets going, so the schedule follows the weather and the growth rather than the calendar. There is a real pleasure in the last pass of the day: the cut lying straight across the yard, the driveway edge sharp, the concrete swept. By evening the wind turns and a fresh-mowed lawn smells like rain that hasn't arrived yet.
