West of Arroyo Hondo the land opens onto a sagebrush plateau and then drops away into the Rio Grande Gorge, where an old bridge crosses the river far below the rim. It is country of enormous sky, with the peaks above Taos rising to the east and storm light racing across the mesa on a fall afternoon. Crosby Enterprises keeps up grass and grounds in this high, open community, where every bit of green holds its own against wind and altitude. There is a quiet pride in a tidy property set against such untamed scenery, the grass cut even and the edges defined, ready for company or for a still evening alone. As the sun sinks and the gorge goes dark, the yard remains a small square of calm on the edge of something vast.
