Down in the canyon of the Rio Hondo, the creek comes tumbling out of the high country toward the Rio Grande, and the village ditches of Arroyo Hondo spill its water into small fields and orchards. Cowboy Craft does lawn care here, where green grows thick in the bottomland and the dry mesa begins just above the village. Summer in northern New Mexico is short and bright, with warm days, cold nights and snowmelt running high into June. Keeping a yard in that window means mowing while the grass is surging and trimming the edges back before everything spills over. When evening shade fills the canyon and cut grass scents the cool air, it feels like the right work in exactly the right place.
