On the shaded north sides of Angel Fire, snow lies in dirty crescents into May while the sunny slopes across the road have already started to color up. SS Rocks Y Mas, Inc. works both halves of that split, raking the matted grass open, taking the season's first mow, trimming where lawn runs up against granite and gravel. Everything in this valley is built on mountain grit, so a lawn here is a made thing, held together by regular cutting and clearing. Visits carry on through the summer, keeping height even and borders defined all the way to the aspens. The satisfaction is in the contrast, soft green against hard rock, and the line kept sharp between them.
