On summer evenings in the old streets near Central, the big elms drop the temperature ten degrees and the cicadas take over the block. Roadrunner Lawn Care mows while the light is still long, running even passes, cutting the edge along cracked sidewalk and trimming close to porch steps and the alley gate. Yards in these neighborhoods are small and much used, so a tidy one changes the whole feel of a house. The clippings ride out in the truck, the sidewalk ends up bare, and a real roadrunner crosses the wall now and then, unimpressed. What is left is a lawn somebody will actually sit out on.
