All afternoon White Sands throws light back across the Tularosa Basin, and Alamogordo does its living under that brightness with the Sacramentos standing dark to the east. Southwest Landscape mows, edges and trims through it, holding lawns even under a sun that finds every uncut ridge and every missed corner. In a basin this dry a green yard is a decision, water spent on purpose and grass kept at the height that shades its own roots. Come fall the cottonwoods drop across the old park blocks, and those leaves get gathered before the wind sorts them for you. What the work leaves behind is a square of green that looks deliberate against the desert.
