Zarephath is a quiet pocket of Franklin Township where the Delaware and Raritan Canal and the Millstone River run side by side, and on spring mornings a soft fog lies over both well after sunrise. The hamlet grew up around the Pillar of Fire church campus more than a century ago, and its broad lawns and old shade trees still give the place an open, unhurried feel. ARB Landscaping cuts grass in this low river country, where damp ground pushes the lawns to grow with real ambition from May onward. Each visit leaves even stripes, trim work along the walks and a yard as calm as the canal on a windless day. By noon the mist has burned away, cyclists are rolling along the towpath under the sycamores, and the lawns beside them look combed and ready for company.
