Out past the last block of Woodstown the fields open wide, and in a winter storm the snow does not so much fall as travel — sideways over the corn stubble, piling against every hedgerow and driveway it finds. Mom's Lawn Care works both seasons on that ground: plowing and shoveling, salt down on walks and drives, and a second pass when the wind has quietly refilled what was already cleared. In the warm half of the year it is mowing, trimming and edging on a steady rotation, with clearings in spring and again in late fall. Big-sky country makes for big lawns, and a straight set of lines across one is a fine thing to look back at. The work is honest either way, and it finishes where somebody actually lives.
