April in Woodbury smells like cut grass about a week before anybody is ready for it. VIP Lawncare & Landscaping, LLC opens the season right then, running first cuts through town and out along the quiet streets toward Woodbury Heights where the yards sit under old shade trees. After that it is cutting, trimming and a clean line along the walks, weekly, all the way to the far end of fall. The first cut of the year is the dramatic one, a yard going from ragged to trim in forty minutes while the whole house seems to change with it. Everything after that is rhythm, which turns out to be its own kind of pleasure.
