Woodbury keeps two calendars. One runs green, from the first April cut to the last leaves raked out of the hedges near Stewart Lake; the other runs white and unpredictable, three or four nights a winter when the plow matters more than anything else in town. Fitzgerald Landscape Company works both, mowing and trimming through the growing months, then plowing driveways, clearing walkways and spreading salt when a storm actually delivers. On those nights the phone is the alarm clock and the streets are empty and orange under the lamps. Morning comes, the pavement is bare, and the day proceeds as though nothing happened, which is exactly the point.
