The first mild week of March in the Pascack Valley smells like wet ground and road salt, and every lawn in Westwood is wearing a winter's worth of grit and grey. JVS Landscaping opens the year right there — cleanup raking, hauling out the dead stuff, sweeping the sand off the walks, cutting the beds back so the ground can breathe. Then the mowing starts and does not let up until October, along with the edging, the trimming, and mulch when the beds want it.
