A Westfield snow day has a sound to it: shovels scraping in pairs down a block of sidewalks, somebody's dog going wild in the drifts, the school corners quiet. Teen Assistant LLC is out in that — clearing front walks and steps, shoveling driveways, cutting a path from the door to the mailbox and another to the car, breaking apart the heavy shelf the plow leaves at the curb. It is the help a neighbor gives a neighbor, arranged ahead of time so it actually arrives. Snow in this town is beautiful for about an hour and then it is a chore. Better to have it handled before you get your boots on.
