West Cape May is a borough of open fields and short blocks, where lima bean rows run nearly to the backyards and the light off the Delaware Bay comes in soft and salted. Jacob Landscaping mows and trims in that light, working the lawns between Sunset Boulevard and the marsh, where the wind never entirely stops. Salt air is hard on turf, so the cut is kept sensible and the borders kept sharp, and a yard here answers attention with a green that looks lit from inside. In late summer the monarchs pass through and every hedge line seems to be moving. It is a fine thing to have the grass even and the edges drawn while the whole town is outside watching them go.
