March is the seam in a Vineland year: one week the plow is still hitched, the next the mowers come off the trailer for the first cut. Spring Green works both ends of it — snow plowing, walkway clearing and salting while winter still has a say, then the mowing, the edge work and the trimming as the turf wakes up. That first cut of the season is a small ceremony, a yard going from shaggy and gray to sharp in about forty minutes. Autumn runs the reverse: leaves off, beds emptied, everything buttoned down while the light gets short. A property looked after in all twelve months never has to be rescued in any of them.
