Vineland named its streets after what grew here — Grape, Peach, Almond, Walnut — and Marquez Landscaping LLC keeps two calendars for the ground between them. From April to October it is mowing, edging and trimming, a long green stretch measured out in Saturdays and finished with the walks swept clean. Then the light goes short, the leaves come off in the cleanups, and the same trucks carry plows and salt for driveways and walkways. Winter in this corner of the state is a moody guest: some years it barely knocks, some it turns up all at once at two in the morning. Either way the aim holds steady — a lawn worth looking at, and a drive you can back out of without thinking about it.
