The stream cut a shallow hollow through this town a very long time ago, and on a January morning the low sun clears its rim and lights the plowed banks like something poured. Sun Valley Landscaping is out ahead of that light in Tinton Falls, driveways opened, walks and steps shoveled, salt down before the surface has a chance to glaze over. Come April the same trucks carry mowers instead, and the work turns to weekly cutting, edging, trimming and cleanups that take a yard from sodden to sharp. There is a week or two each year when both jobs overlap, and honestly it is the most alive the calendar ever feels. Properties around town and out through the neighboring towns are served on either schedule.
