Shallis & Sons

About Shallis & Sons

The worst nights around here are not the snowy ones. They are the ones that start as rain off the Delaware and turn over to ice around two in the morning, glazing every driveway apron in Swedesboro before anyone is awake to see it. Shallis & Sons is out in that, plowing what fell, breaking up what froze, and spreading salt on steps and walkways where a fall would actually hurt somebody. River-damp cold gets into everything, and the work is slow, methodical and mostly done in the dark. Then the sky goes grey at the edges, the coffee cools in the cab, and one more street can be crossed off. Clear pavement by sunrise is the whole reward, and it is enough.
