Greenskeeper

About Greenskeeper

Wind crosses the flat ground near the Sussex Airport most afternoons, steady enough that clippings refuse to stay where you put them. Greenskeeper mows into it anyway, working the cut so the discharge lands where it should and the lines come out true from the first pass to the last. Lawn mowing, trimming and edging fill the calendar from the April greenup until the ground gives up its heat in November, when cleanups take over. Grass in this valley grows in bursts after a warm rain, and keeping up with it is a matter of showing up on the same day, on schedule, week after week. A yard held to that rhythm never looks like it was rescued — it just looks right.
