Midday over the bridge out of Somers Point, the water throws back so much glare that the gulls look like paper, and the town below goes about its business in full sun. MTA professional landscaping runs its routes through the middle of that day, block after block, mowing and edging while the light is high and every missed line would show. Trimming tight along foundations and fence posts, squaring the borders, clearing away what the wind has stacked in the corners of a yard. The pleasure of the job is arriving at a lawn that has gotten away from someone and leaving it with straight lines and clean edges. Then on to the next street, and the one after that.
