Seaville sits back on the mainland where the pines meet the marsh, with Route 9 running past the old camp meeting grounds and Great Egg Harbor spreading north. Sandy pineland soil grows grass on its own terms, so mowing here is set to the ground rather than the calendar, along with trimming around trees and posts, edging the drives, and clearing the yard as the seasons turn it over. When a storm pushes in off the bay it becomes plowing long country driveways, shoveling walks down to the surface, and salting where shade under the pines keeps ice from letting go. Upper Township is spread out, which makes a storm morning a long route and a good one. Every drive opened is somebody's morning made ordinary again.
