The first trains out of Roselle Park leave in the dark all winter long, and people walk to them. Spano and Sons Landscape gets out ahead of that — driveways plowed, walks and steps taken down to the surface, salt where ice wants to sit. In the warm half of the year the same properties get mowed, edged and trimmed, with the cleanups carried off at both ends of the season. It is a compact borough where neighbors live within arm's reach of one another, so what happens on one property is noticed on the next. Either season, the work comes down to the same thing: a place that functions, one morning after another.
