Autumn comes down fast on the Aldene end of Roselle Park, where the old rail line runs and the side-street maples let go all at once. Green Park Lawn works the borough's yards straight through it — mowing while the grass is still growing, edging, trimming, and pulling leaves off the turf and out of the corners where they pile against a fence. There is a particular satisfaction in the last cut of the year: short, clean, the yard put to bed. After that the season closes, and the lawn waits for spring with nothing left lying on it.
