Lake Telemark carries a Norwegian name into the Morris County woods, and the little community around it is built around water, trees and the commons everybody shares. Lake Telemark Community Club keeps that ground in lawn care — mowing the open green, trimming along paths and shoreline edges, and running the cleanups that bracket the summer. A shared lawn is a different animal from a private one; it has to hold up under bare feet, folding chairs and the whole neighborhood at once. On a July afternoon with the lake flat and the grass just cut, the place looks precisely like what it was meant to be. That is the job, and it is done in plain sight.
