On a July evening the air off Erskine Lake finally cools, the cicadas wind down, and Ringwood's lawns take on that low gold color that only lasts about an hour. MSP landscapers times the summer around heat like that — cutting high enough that the turf holds its moisture, running the fence lines, edging the walk so the lawn ends where it is supposed to. Between the lakes and the ridges this is a town of small clearings, and each one asks for a slightly different pass. A yard mowed with care reads as calm from the porch, which is most of the point. The rest of it is the straight line and the swept walk at the end of the visit.
