Most of what makes a lawn is underneath it. Between the tidal edge of the Navesink and the older blocks uphill, Red Bank ground runs from silty to sandy, and grass here lives or dies on root depth. Ecology-Lawn works to that: core aeration to open compacted soil, overseeding to thicken the stand, feeding on the calendar the grass actually keeps, and mowing high enough to leave the roots shaded. Cleanups in spring and fall clear the way for light and air. The visible part — even color, a lawn that takes a hot week without going straw — is the result, not the method.
