A Saturday morning in May on the streets that run uphill from the river, and JT's Lawn & Landscaping is already halfway through a route. The mower lays its stripes, the trimmer squares up around posts and mailbox, and then comes the edge, that thin crisp seam between grass and concrete that makes a whole yard look deliberate. Cleanups in spring, mulch worked into the beds, leaves cleared in November when the maples let go all at once. Come January the plow takes over, and the same driveways are opened before the first coffee is poured. Raritan is a borough you could cover on foot if you had to, and that closeness shows up in the work.
