Rainbow Lakes is a handful of small lakes tucked into the Morris County woods, with roads that bend around glacial rock and cottages long since grown into year-round homes. By July the canopy closes over those lanes completely. Galan Tree Service opens things where they need opening: removals of oaks gone punky at the base, trimming the limbs that scrape a roof on every windy night, pruning for a little more sun on a lakeside deck. When a summer cell rides over the ridge and drops a tree across a driveway, it gets cut, chipped and carried out the same day. What people notice afterward is the light back on the water, right where it used to be.
