A June thunderstorm crosses Preakness fast: the sky goes brass over Valley Road, rain comes sideways for twenty minutes, and afterward the lawns grow like they have somewhere to be. Jade Landscaping Services LLC keeps pace with that, mowing on a set rotation, edging the walks, trimming out the corners and carrying off the clippings and, later, the leaves. Then January turns those same streets into something else entirely, and the trucks go out with plows to open driveways and treat the walks before anyone has to test them. Two kinds of work, one habit of mind: arrive when it matters, and leave the place better than the weather left it. In a valley this green and this snowy, that adds up to a full year.
