February in Pompton Lakes runs two directions at once — snow one week, a thaw the next, meltwater sliding down toward the Hamburg Turnpike and stiffening again by dark. RVG Landscape Design covers both halves of that year: plowing, shoveling and salting when storms cross through, then cleanup work, mowing, edging, trimming and mulch once the ground lets go. Ice on a shaded walk is a different problem from six fresh inches, and the difference is worth respecting. By April the same properties want the winter grit swept out and the beds re-cut, and the change is startling every time. Carrying a place from one condition to the other is the most satisfying part of the work.
