October is the town's own month here, the boardwalk gone quiet, the light low and silver off the water, the streets belonging again to the people who live on them. Seaside Farm and Garden does its lawn work in Point Pleasant Beach on that rhythm: mowing and trimming through the season, edges kept sharp along the sidewalks, beds mulched, and the fall cleanup that strips a yard down before the winter wind comes across. Dune grass and lawn grass want entirely different things, and only one of them is the job. Come spring the same yards get opened back up, seeded thin where the salt burned them, and cut into shape ahead of the first busy weekend. Small lots, close together, each one finished on its own terms.
