About Vernon's Landscaping

West of town the land opens out toward Alpha and Pohatcong, and in winter the wind crosses that flat ground with nothing at all to slow it, drifting a driveway shut twice in one night. Vernon's Landscaping answers both sides of that year — plow, shovel and salt when the cold demands it, and through the warm stretch the mowing, the trimming, the honest lines around a yard. Dusk in December with the headlights on and the blade down is not a bad way to make a living, not when the drive comes out clean. Spring undoes every bit of it and hands back green, which is its own kind of pleasure. Phillipsburg, Alpha, Pohatcong and the roads that run between them.
