By mid-October the woods along the Lawrence Hopewell Trail have turned the Pennington side of the valley copper, and the leaves begin finding their way onto every lawn in the borough. Lafferty's Lawn Services spends that stretch clearing them, cleanup after cleanup, until the turf is open to the light again and can go into winter without a wet mat pressing down on it. Through the growing months the routine is simpler and just as particular: mowing on schedule, edging the walk and the drive, trimming what the mower rounds off. A yard kept that way never really has a bad week — it just has a look. Then spring cleanup starts the whole circle over.
